Vaishali Wins FIDE Women’s Candidates 2026

India’s R Vaishali won the FIDE Women’s Candidates Tournament 2026 in Cyprus, securing her place as challenger for the World Championship. The 24-year-old defeated Kateryna Lagno in the final round to finish with 8.5 points. She will now face reigning champion Ju Wenjun later this year. In the Open section, Javokhir Sindarov emerged winner and will challenge India’s world champion D Gukesh.
