WHAT WE DO

We support and promote sports excellence by providing financial assistance, cash awards, pensions, and national recognition to sportspersons, coaches, and organizations.

Our work includes welfare support for athletes and coaches, rewarding medal winners and their coaches, ensuring pensions for retired sportspersons, and honouring outstanding contributions through prestigious National Sports Awards.

These initiatives inspire achievement and strengthen the overall sporting ecosystem in the country.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Various schemes aimed at rewarding, supporting, and promoting sportspersons and coaches are as follows:

1. Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay National Welfare Program for Sportspersons:

This scheme offers financial assistance to outstanding sportspersons and their families in need, covering requirements such as improving living conditions, medical treatment, injury support, and procurement of sports equipment.

2. Scheme of Cash Awards to Medal Winners in International Sports Events and Their Coaches:

Designed to recognize and reward exceptional athletes and their coaches, this scheme provides cash awards ranging from ₹20,000 to ₹75,00,000.

The objective is to incentivize achievements, motivate higher performance, and inspire younger generations to participate in sports.

3. Scheme of Sports Fund for Pension to Meritorious Sportspersons:

This scheme provides a monthly pension ranging from ₹12,000 to ₹20,000 to outstanding retired athletes, ensuring financial stability and support.

4. National Sports Awards:

The National Sports Awards include Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award, Arjuna Award, Arjuna Award (Lifetime), Dronacharya Award, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA) Trophy, and Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puraskar (RKPP).

These awards are conducted annually and are traditionally conferred by the Hon’ble President of India. They recognize sportspersons, coaches, and organizations such as corporate bodies, Sports Control Boards, and NGOs for their contribution to sports.

• Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award:Given to sportsperson(s) for the most outstanding performance in sports over the last four years.
• Arjuna Award:Conferred to sportspersons for outstanding international achievements.
• Arjuna Award (Lifetime):Awarded to sportspersons for lifetime contribution and continued promotion of sports.
• Dronacharya Award:Presented to coaches who have consistently produced outstanding sportspersons and contributed to excellence at international events.
• Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puraskar (RKPP):Awarded to corporate entities, organizations, and NGOs for promoting and developing sports.
• Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA) Trophy:Awarded to the overall winner of the Khelo India University Games.
